An internship at HEMEX

This year, Sara is starting her studies at the University of Basel. She applied for a two-week internship at HEMEX and has been helping the Clinical Operations team with daily activities. Here’s a sum-up of her internship experiences, written by Sara herself.

After obtaining my International Baccalaureate (IB) on my way to the University of Basel, I spent two weeks at HEMEX as an intern with the intent of gaining a more business-centric insight and not just an academic view into my career field – Life Sciences. In all aspects, HEMEX surpassed my initial expectations and my internship was an eye-opener and new skill-acquiring experience.

At the HEMEX office in Liestal, I was first welcomed by the Clinical Operations Team, namely Vanja, who showed me around and guided me, so that I would be exposed to the various stages of the clinical trials process; something core to HEMEX’s service offering.

Throughout the week, I had the opportunity to have and join meetings with the different departments to acquire a better understanding of the processes involved in startup investments and to get to know the career paths of different workers, given that I am just beginning mine. Additionally, I not only had the advantage of having the possibility to read protocols, but also being able to create, adjust and design documents to be used in clinical studies such as a Study Status report, a Clinical Investigation Safety Report Form and an Information Consent Form (ICF).

On my last day, I was gifted a pizza farewell lunch. I could not have asked for more amicable humorous people. From experiencing a work day to learning how to make very nice coffees, HEMEX helped me develop both hard- and soft-skills and will shape the next steps in my life.
